A pure American Folk style, make famous by the Carter Family.   Played in the upright position, the Autoharp can be accompaniment or a lead instrument.   It is most common to hear the Appalachian autoharp playing fiddle tunes and folk country groups.  In the early 1970’s some players were experimenting with finger style techniques where individual fingers of the right hand would pluck specific strings rather than simply strum.   The Autoharp is a relatively easy instrument to begin playing and also a challenging instrument to master.

June Carter Cash made famous the Appalachian Style on the Auto Harp. Best styles for the Auto Harp is bluegrass, country and gospel. This is an easy instrument to play quickly and enjoy. It is also a challenging instrument to learn out to play melody with the correct chords. “ I truly enjoy playing the Auto Harp and would be so happy to help anyone learn this wonderful instrument. If you need to purchase an Auto Harp for lessons, please call me for advice”. Charlotte Floyd
